at least partly. And in the end, even if there are markets and capitalists, the state and the party control them. Furthermore, the CCP is actually much more democratic than generally thought in the West. Similarly, local politics in China are really open to free debate and quite democratic too.

and it's not micromanaged, nor centralised. Regions are very autonomous. Cities are, too. Local committees and citizen groups are very active. If you want to look at tyranny, looks France.

Well that was my point. China can't be micromanaged because of her sheer size and population. The Chinese people obviously, love their system or else they would revolt. It's a system which they are comfortable with and one that strives for a balance between various political and economical ideologies. It can't be claimed to be Socialist, Capitalist or Fascist.

That's why there are so many auto makers for instance. All autonomous regions, big cities, etc created their own. A strong competitive environment is culling the herd, as it should be. But the way it works ordinary citizens don't suffer as much from the collapse of failed industries as they do in the West.
