I randomly check items in my collection and so far they're all still fine :)

I have older CD's that no longer play...
not surprised.

I was talking about pre-recorded CDs and DVDs. The one I burned myself are more of a mixed bag; some cheap Chinese brand that I used a lot in the late 90s still all work perfectly; some more reputable are now unreadable (but I copied them before it was too late). For DVDs, I have some TDK "diamond" with a very tough varnish that are all fine after about 15 to 20 years, most other brands are toast.

OTOH the floppies for my 1987 Apple //c and my 1988 Roland D-20 all work. I’ve lost only a couple of them in nearly 40 years.
