@Emmanuel Florac I don't know what to believe and I certainly don't believe the American authorities, nor the French ones and Pavel Durov is perceived to be compromised. Which is the primary reason, that I no longer use Telegram on any architecture.

I like the content on Telegram for the most part, however, I prefer XMPP, Matrix and IRC. Also, Telegram and platforms like it are too intrusive. They require phone numbers and the content therein is locked in. It's just too much trouble to partake in.

@Carter Braxton yeah the guy is weird. Like he's a billionnaire, but doesn't earn anything from Telegram. Where does the money come from then ?

@Carter Braxton at least the Telegram client is open source, that makes it acceptable to me. Signal is better though.

@Carter Braxton yes Signal allows to create channels not unlike Telegram, however they're entirely encrypted, therefore secure.

@Emmanuel Florac Yes I know some of the specs of Signal, however I've never had the opportunity to use it, since I don't know anyone else that uses it. I have friends that use Telegram but I don't use use it. The same is true for Facebook and Twitter and a host of other social media platforms. Instead of following the crowd I prefer to lean on the side of control and security. I use XMPP, Matrix, Mumble and IRC but only a few of my friends actually use any of those or all of them.

The problem when you try to adopt an exotic messaging platform, is that none of your friends or family wanna hear about it. Same goes with social media. When I left Facebook, with hundreds of "friends" including many dozen "real" friends, none of them followed me on diaspora. Zero. It's easier with videoconf, you just give them a link (a jitsi based platform) and chances are they won't even notice it's not zoom 😅
